The collective agreement of HSA nurses is negotiated between employers and the nursing bargaining association representing nurses belonging to the Health Sciences Association and the BC Nurses Union. The BCNU is the largest union in the NBA. Currently, approximately 900 HSA members are covered by this agreement. Responsibility payment: Nurses receive $1.25/overtime for periods when they are described as “responsible.” Limited health benefits may be available to the health sector after the eligibility conditions of their collective agreement have been concluded. Casual nurses and paramedic collective agreements who purchase certain health benefits as soon as they are eligible and work at least 939.6 hours between October 1 and September 30, 30, up to a maximum of 12 months.
